Why Training Does Not Improve Performance
Training can be well designed, well delivered and well received — yet performance may remain unchanged.
Training fixes capability problems
If people genuinely lack knowledge or skill, training can be exactly the right intervention. But training cannot remove a broken approval process, conflicting targets, missing tools or a manager behaviour problem.
Activity is not the same as movement
Attendance, completion and participant satisfaction tell us whether training happened. They do not prove that the performance variable moved.
Reopen the diagnosis when results do not move
If the expected change does not appear, repeating or intensifying the same intervention without re-checking the cause can turn a weak diagnosis into repeated activity.
Define proof before launch
A stronger approach states what should change, where, by when and what evidence would make us reconsider the original explanation.
